Public space has been an essential part of Chinese cities in various types and forms throughout history. However, the turbulent 20th century has broken the long tradition of public space in urban China

Zhengding (正定) is a small historic city in Hebei Province in North China. This research provides a historical overview of the evolution of Zhengding and its public spaces, examined from morphological and typological perspectives.
